To qualify at the GS-12, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-11 level in federal service having demonstrated experience in 4 out of the 5 areas: Develop and implement critical database systems; Install and configure database software and operating systems; Use Standard Query Languages to develop queries and scripts; Provide technical support to database users and/or developers; Develop and maintain applications on operating systems such as OpenVMS, Oracle, and Linux.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.
